  • Google Analytics tools offer insight into buyer behavior
Google has launched a limited test of several new reporting tools that work with its Analytics site to offer marketers more insight into the channels used by consumers before making an online purchase. Similar to AdWords Search Funnels, the reports include one that uses diagrams to show which mix of channels reaps the most conversions and another that breaks out how many sales were assisted and completed by any given channel. Internet advertising revenue set a record last year, with nearly half of that $26 billion coming from search. Retailers were the biggest spenders, with 21%, up from 20% in 2009, and advertising categories with double-digit percentage increases included sponsorships, display banner ads and digital video commercials. • Consumers read online product reviews, but not on social networks
E-commerce sites, review sites and search engines are the most likely landing places for consumers seeking product reviews before making a purchase, according to new data from Lightspeed Research. Only 7% of the 1,500 consumers polled said they have used social sites such as Facebook and Twitter as a source of reviews. "Despite their role in our digital lives, social networks don't yet seem to be the place where word of mouth is delivering its full power," said Lightspeed's Naor Chazan. • White House pushes for secure, single online identity
To make online transactions safer and protect consumers from identity theft, President Barack Obama proposed an initiative that would provide consumers with a single, secure online identity that they would use in all transactions with retailers, banks and other institutions. The program would protect consumers and give a boost to e-commerce companies, Obama said. Yahoo!/Digital Trends (4/15) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • U.S. senator set to introduce Internet sales tax bill
Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is reportedly poised to introduce a bill to tax all online purchases, regardless of whether the merchant has a physical presence in the state collecting the tax. Past measures have failed, but rapid growth of online sales, outcry from brick-and-mortar merchants to level the playing field, and depleted state and local tax revenue could make it easier for such a bill to win support this year. This is part 2 of a three-part series. Written by Steven Clayton, ClickBank guest author.

In Part 1 of this series, I discussed why moving from affiliate to vendor, or doing both at the same time, is a great idea. I also discussed how to pick a topic or niche. • Affiliate marketing: Creating a high-content authority site for affiliate sales
Before you begin building your website or hiring freelancers, you need to decide what your niche or subject matter will be. I would suggest selecting a niche that you are familiar with, enjoy, and that has a definite demand for continuous content.

The worst thing is to be three months into the project and realize the niche puts you to sleep. You need something that is exciting for you! ClickBank Blog. LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
