JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TO MEET WITH BCS
(AP) - The Justice Department, which has raised antitrust concerns about college football's Bowl Championship Series, will meet with the organization this summer. BCS executive director Bill Hancock tells The Associated Press that a Justice Department attorney has asked for a voluntary background briefing on how the BCS operates. Hancock says he agreed to provide one, adding he sees it as an opportunity to emphasize that the BCS was crafted with antitrust laws in mind.

NFL AND PLAYERS MEET, COURT DATE NEXT
(AP) - From talks in front of a mediator to arguments before an appeals court, the NFL's labor dispute has reached a critical stage. The league and its players completed three straight days of not-so-secret talks Thursday. Now they head to court in St. Louis for a ruling that could prove pivotal in the nearly three-month lockout.

LAWYER: PACQUIAO SETTLES DEFAMATION LAWSUIT
(AP) - A lawyer for Manny Pacquiao says the boxer has settled a defamation lawsuit against other boxing world figures who intimated he used performance enhancing drugs. Attorney Daniel Petrocelli said in a release Wednesday that Pacquiao settled with former boxer Oscar de La Hoya and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions on confidential terms.

(AP) - Lance Armstrong is adding two lawyers to his legal team who previously won a major legal victory against federal investigators in a doping case.

(AP) - A New Jersey judge has declared a mistrial in the armed robbery prosecution of a former Seton Hall basketball player.
