TOOLS OF THE TRADE:

A LAWYER'S IPAD NEEDS A REMOTE PC CONTROL APP
(FindLaw's Technologist) - Lawyering on the go with your iPad? Want an app that will allow you to view your office computer screen just as though you were sitting on your desk? Of course you do. All you iPad-centric attorneys should consider a remote PC control app, perfect for when you leave a file behind or need to check on something back at the office with a tap of the iPad screen.

LAWYER LIFESTYLE:

THE MOST-VISITED LAW PROFESSOR LAW BLOGS
(FindLaw's Greedy Associates) - How many of you wish you could knock out some of those required continuing education credits with a little blog reading? Well you can't, so deal with it. Or, at the very least, be wise with your time and only read the ones that everyone else does. Seriously--you already permitted law school and law firm rankings to dictate your career path, so why not let visitor numbers dictate what you read?

ASSOCIATE CHARGED IN $32M INSIDER TRADING AT 3 BIGLAW FIRMS
(FindLaw's Greedy Associates) - Being a greedy associate at a law firm can mean more than just wanting a monster spring bonus. Sometimes it means being really, really greedy. A former associate has been charged in an alleged $32-million insider trading scheme based on information he obtained while working at three of America's largest law firms, officials said. Matthew Kluger, who specialized in merger and acquisitions for Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, will be arraigned in federal court in Newark Wednesday, The Star-Ledger reports.

COURT SIDE:

STRIP SEARCHES DON'T VIOLATE 4TH AMENDMENT, D.C. CIRCUIT RULES
(FindLaw's Decided) - The D.C. Circuit has ruled that persons arrested for non-violent, non-drug-related misdemeanors may be subject to strip searches even without a showing of reasonable suspicion. In other words, it's constitutional in D.C. to strip search a person who has been hauled in for trespassing. The plaintiffs in Bame v. Dillard were arrested during the 2002 IMF and World Bank protests. Before being strip searched, they were hauled into a Superior Court holding facility where they went through metal detectors and pat downs.

ROGUE ALES SUES OVER PHOTO OF NUDE WOMAN: RISE IN RENT LOOMS
(FindLaw's Strategist) - All lawyers are saddled with the facts of each case that comes across their desk. But how about when the facts are just strange enough to give an attorney a pretty decent case?

COURT TOSSES WINKLEVOSS TWINS' FACEBOOK APPEAL
(FindLaw's Decided) - Despite his polite wording, the 9th Circuit's Chief Judge Kozinski put the smackdown on the Winklevoss twins and their hopefully final Facebook appeal. After settling claims against Facebook alleging that Mark Zuckerburg had stolen their idea for a social network, the Winklevoss twins tried to renege on the agreement, claiming that it was acquired by fraud. Upholding the agreement, Judge Kozinski implies that the twins should have hired better attorneys.

TEXAS JUDGE THROWS OUT $625M JURY AWARD AGAINST APPLE
(FindLaw's In House) - Apple's legal team won a big one in Texas. A federal judge threw out an earlier $625 million verdict against Apple in a patent-infringement case, overturning one of the largest settlements ever awarded in a patent case and fueling debate on software copyright in general. A jury in federal court in Tyler, Texas -- which often handles complex patent cases -- last year found that Apple infringed three of Mirror Worlds' patents, awarding the company $208.5 million for each patent, or $625.5 million overall, Reuters reports.

INSIDER TIPS & LAW FIRM NEWS:

OUT-OF-STATE IN HOUSE COUNSELS CAN NOW ADVISE CLIENTS IN NY
(FindLaw's In House) - Inevitably, most in-house attorneys at large outfits will get sent on business to New York. Now those in house counsels who are not licensed to practice law in New York will nevertheless be able to offer legal advice in the state under new rules adopted by the Court of Appeals. The rules approved by the state's highest court, codified as 22 NYCRR Part 522, will allow out-of-state lawyers to provide counsel to private corporations, associations or other legal entities operating in New York, as well as to their employees, directors or officers.

EFFECTIVE TIPS ON HOW TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
(Eric Sinrod) - Initially, some companies were reluctant to embrace social media, perhaps being concerned about lack of control and other issues. However, as the world truly has migrated to social media sites (with Facebook boasting hundreds of millions of users), there now is little doubt that most companies now want to embrace social networking as a way to get the word out about their products and services. But, what are the best strategies for businesses to employ in the social media context?
