Presidential Social Network
OBAMA AT FACEBOOK: NEW MEDIA, TRADITIONAL TONE
(AP) - President Barack Obama likely has a few more "friends" after a town hall at Facebook headquarters Wednesday, but the real winner may be the medium of social networking itself, which commands not just the attention of politicians but now an appearance from the president. At the same time, the openness and accessibility praised by Obama himself as a key value of social media clashed with the tightly controlled nature of the event.

Understanding the System
WHY DOES JURY DUTY SOMETIMES TAKE FOREVER?
(FindLaw's Blotter) - There are very few people out there who rejoice when they receive a jury summons. No matter the case, the number one complaint of prospective jurors is the excruciating amount of time it takes for the judge and attorneys to whittle down the jury pool. What gives? Whether it's a civil or criminal suit, the law requires that a jury be unbiased. Weeding out potentially biased jurors isn't as easy as it sounds.

Trend to Tipsy
ARE TIPSY TODDLERS THE NEW HOT FOOD LAWSUIT?
(FindLaw's Injured) - Food-related lawsuits come in waves, oftentimes showcasing similar fact patterns and events. We've seen this with foreign-object-in-food suits, as well as with the McDonald's coffee incident and the subsequent "hot food" lawsuits that seemed to clog the courts overnight. On the heels of two tipsy toddler incidents, wherein both Applebee's and Olive Garden allegedly served alcohol to young children, a Chicago mother is claiming that a Chili's restaurant served her 4-year-old daughter an alcoholic Mudslide instead of a chocolate shake.

Who's Happy?
MCDONALD'S DEFENDS HAPPY MEALS: MOM CAN SAY 'NO'
(FindLaw's Common Law) - However you feel about McDonald's and fast food in general, it's your decision as to whether or not you feed Happy Meals to your kids. Or at least McDonald's thinks so. Responding to a lawsuit that accuses the company of false advertising and unfair competition for its placement of toys in Happy Meals, McDonald's requested that a judge dismiss the lawsuit because parents can just say "no."

VERDICT TO BE READ IN MATTEL-BRATZ COPYRIGHT TRIAL
(AP) - A California jury is preparing to read its verdict Thursday in the copyright infringement and trade secrets case pitting Mattel Inc. against MGA Entertainment Inc. over ownership of the popular Bratz doll line. The jury reached the verdict late Wednesday but U.S. District Court Judge David Carter ordered it read Thursday morning to allow all parties time to arrive at the Santa Ana court.

Safety Behind the Screen
MATCH.COM WILL SCREEN FOR SEX OFFENDERS
(FindLaw's Injured) - In the face of a lawsuit by a woman who was allegedly raped by her sex offender date, Match.com has vehemently defended its policy of not screening members against the national sex offender registry. The dating site has now changed its tune, announcing Sunday night that it will begin screening Match.com members. The catch? They cannot and will not guarantee members' safety.

BLOOD TYPE PERFUME DEBUTS FOR VAMPIRES, TRUE BLOOD FANS
(FindLaw's Legally Weird) - There's a new perfume on the block and it's supposed to conjure up images of blood. Blood Concept, also known as blood type perfume, will hit the market in September, with each of the four metallic, earthy scents representing a unique blood type. The reason I tell you this is not because the scents contain actual human blood (that's illegal), but because it points to a larger legal question: Are vampires the new pirates and ninjas?
