TOP NEWS - RELEVANT HEARSAY:

Stopped In the Name of the Court
9TH CIRCUIT KEEPS GAY MARRIAGE BAN IN PLACE
(FindLaw's Courtside) - The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has denied the plaintiffs' motion in the Proposition 8 lawsuit to vacate the stay of the decision overturning California's constitutional ban on gay marriage, thus keeping the ban in effect until the court issues its decision in the case. The 9th Circuit has certified a question of California law to the California Supreme Court and is currently awaiting that court's determination before moving forward on the matter.

A Woman Unrequited
DENIED A KISS, FLA. WOMAN, 92, SHOOTS UP HER NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE
(FindLaw's Legally Weird) - The title of this post sounds like something out of Betty White's newly reinvigorated career. It's not.

ARIZONA BRIDE ARRESTED AT HER WEDDING RECEPTION
(FindLaw's Blotter) - Weddings are supposed to be joyous affairs--not fighting affairs. Angela Davito and her new husband clearly didn't get the memo. Upset that uninvited guests were dancing provocatively with his new bride, the groom initiated an all out rumble during the Arizona couple's reception. Not only does this story involve pepper spray, a kick to the groin, and a hysterical woman, it includes a tale of an Arizona bride fighting with a pregnant guest.

DUMB LAWS: DUMBEST LAWS INVOLVING SEX
(FindLaw's Legal Grounds) - One would have expected the sexual revolution and women's liberation movement to have stripped legislative codes of sexist laws and sex laws. Not so. Clinging onto days past (though some would say days present), some states have continued to enshrine ridiculously dumb laws that restrict sexual activities and punish men for a woman's choice. Or stupidity. Whichever.

CRIMINAL LAW - ARRESTING DEVELOPMENTS:

MOM STREAMED SEX ABUSE OF DAUGHTER OVER WEBCAM
(FindLaw's Blotter) - Many of us feel that the worst crime a person can commit is sexual abuse of a child. But even that can be made much worse.

NUDE WOMAN RESCUED FROM SIDE OF CLIFF AT SAN DIEGO'S BLACK'S BEACH
(FindLaw's Legally Weird) - Sunny Dan Diego has a nude beach. Surprised? Same here. But Black's Beach is apparently widely known for its nude revelers, one of which is currently making headlines. In an attempt to challenge the stereotype that the nation's nude beaches are solely the playground of old, wrinkly men, a 27 year old woman got stuck on the bluffs overlooking Black's Beach.
